Frequently asked questions
I received a letter from the CRA. What should I do first?
Do not ignore it, and note the deadline. Send me the letter and I will explain what is being requested and how to respond.
What is the Voluntary Disclosures Program?
It is a CRA program that lets taxpayers correct past errors or omissions in their tax filings. For applications received on or after October 1, 2025, an application made before the CRA has contacted you about the issue is normally eligible for 100% relief of penalties and 75% relief of interest. An application made after the CRA has contacted you about the issue (a prompted application, which does not include education letters) is normally eligible for up to 100% relief of penalties and 25% relief of interest. Taxes owing must still be paid. Eligibility conditions apply, including that no audit or investigation has started, and relief is not guaranteed.
